The WBS Jr. Knights is a USA Hockey-sanctioned program focused on developing youth hockey players in northeastern Pennsylvania since 2007. It offers competitive teams at various levels, including Tier I and Tier II.

The program serves players from U8 (Mite) to U20 (Junior), encompassing ages roughly 6 to 20, with specific age classifications such as Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget.

Tier levels generally refer to the level of competition: Tier I is the highest level (e.g., USHL), followed by Tier II (e.g., NCDC & NAHL), and then Tier III (e.g., USPHL). In youth hockey, teams are also often ranked by letters like AAA, AA, A, etc., though this varies by region.

 

Youth hockey tuition ranges from $1,500 to $6,000 per year (non-academy), depending on the team level, tier, and league. A tuition fact sheet is available for each team. Additional fees for uniforms and fundraising may apply.

Yes, there is an early pay discount for payment in full and an option for a payment plan spread over several months. All tuition must be paid in full by November 1st.

Yes, families can purchase Registration Cancellation Protection and Gap Medical Insurance during the registration process.

Yes, players need to update their USA Hockey membership prior to the execution of a contract for the upcoming season.

No, team placement is not guaranteed. Players are selected based on skill levels during tryouts. Developmental teams and in-house leagues are available for those who don’t make a travel team.

Yes, every player must try out for the team(s) to be considered for a contract.

 Yes, all players are required to attend all tryout sessions for their age group and tier level. Tryout fees are non-refundable.

At younger age levels, ice time is distributed fairly equally. At older age levels and higher competition tiers, playing time may vary based on coaches’ decisions.

In the past six years, the WBS Knights have helped over 79 players advance to Division 1 college programs.
